- The transaction values shown on the firm’s website, including very large listed deals, are presented alongside a claim of combined leadership experience. Ask which transactions the firm itself executed as Post Oak Group, and which are the prior-career experience of individual bankers. This distinction is normal at boutique firms and it is worth having in writing.
- Ask which entity holds the broker-dealer registration, and confirm it on FINRA BrokerCheck before you sign anything.
- Ask who specifically will run your mandate day to day, not who is named on the website.
- Get the fee structure in writing: retainer, success fee, expense treatment, and what happens if the process ends without a transaction.
- Confirm the engagement letter’s exclusivity period and tail provision before signing.
